Book of the Month

The Double Tax

This month's reading gives us another lens for examining money, labor, caregiving, opportunity, wealth-building, and the different costs people carry through daily life.

You can participate in every August conversation whether you read the entire book, a portion of it, or simply engage with the questions it raises.

Our August Practice

Share. Respond. Connect.

1. Share one reflection
2. Continue one conversation

Each week, add your own perspective and spend a few minutes learning from someone else's. Ask a question, share a connection, or name where your experience differs.

Week by Week

Week 1 · August 10–16

What Does Enough Mean?

We begin by exploring what “enough” means beyond a number. What creates a sense of security, possibility, rest, or care in your life?

Community prompt: When you hear the word enough in relation to money, what comes up first?

Reflection: Where did your definition of enough come from, and how is it shaping your money choices today?

Week 2 · August 17–23

Money Stories We Inherited

This week we examine the messages we absorbed about saving, spending, security, scarcity, generosity, work, and success.

Community prompt: What is one message about money you learned early in life that still influences you today?

Book connection: Where do personal money stories meet larger conditions that shape what life actually costs?

Week 3 · August 24–30

Wealth Moves Through Relationships

We expand the idea of wealth to include money, knowledge, time, skills, care, access, food, creativity, and other resources that support community security.

Community prompt: When has someone shared a resource with you in a way that genuinely supported you?

Creative practice: Make a personal wealth inventory that includes the resources in your life beyond income.

What We're Carrying Forward

We close the month by noticing what we learned through one another.

Closing prompt: What is one idea about money, wealth, or community security that became clearer because of something another member shared?
