A Sanctuary for Grounded Liberation

Reflection • Repair • Rejuvenation • Reclamation

Liberation is not a sprint.

Shine Bright School is a membership community for people committed to Black liberation through reflection, repair, creativity, and community. The work here is slow by design. Embodied. Honest. And held in a container that is built to restore you as much as it challenges you.

Liberation has a rhythm. Here is ours.

Shine Bright School moves through four pillars across the year — not as a curriculum to complete, but as a living rhythm to inhabit. Each season shapes the reflections, prompts, peer sessions, and quarterly workshop you receive. Each one builds on the last. Together they form a full cycle of sustainable liberation practice.

Pillar

Pillar

Pillar

1 — Recalibration

Pillar

Recalibration is the season of returning to center — grounding the body, quieting the noise, and noticing what has shifted since the last time you paused long enough to feel it. It is not passive. It is the most necessary first move.

2 — Repair

Some things need tending before they can be built upon.

Repair is the season of mending — the places inside us that absorbed harm and were never given space to heal, the ruptures in our relationships and communities that we stepped around because tending to them felt too hard, the parts of ourselves we quietly set aside just to keep moving.

This is not heavy work. It is honest work. And it is necessary before rejuvenation is possible

3 — Rejuvenation

Liberation is supposed to feel like something.

Rejuvenation is the season of restoring what depletion takes — joy, creativity, imagination, sensuality, pleasure. Not as a reward for working hard enough. As a right. As the very thing that makes a free life worth fighting for.

4 — Reclamation

Take back what was taken.

Reclamation is the season of naming and inhabiting what is ours — our full humanity, our right to be curious and creative and wrong and alive, our capacity to imagine a future that does not yet exist. It is where the year arrives. Where we stand in what we have moved through and decide what we are carrying forward.

Meet the Founder

Educator. Author. Speaker.

Monique Melton

Monique Melton is an educator, published author, international speaker, artist, and the founder of Shine Bright School — a global community dedicated to sustainable liberation through honest, embodied, community-held practice.

She holds a BA in social science with an emphasis in sociology and psychology, and graduate work in clinical counseling from Johns Hopkins. Her work has been featured in Forbes, Fast Company, The Washington Post, NBC, and more.

Inside Shine Bright School, Monique teaches four times a year — one quarterly workshop per pillar season — and leads the annual February 21-Day Liberation Journey. Everything else is held by community and rhythm, intentionally. Because sustainable leadership requires sustainable practice.

What’s New

Shine Bright School was built on a foundation of anti-racism education, divestment practice, and Black liberation. That foundation has not moved.

What has changed is the rhythm. Because we know now — through years of teaching and community-holding — that you cannot do the work from a place of depletion.

You cannot repair what is fractured when you are running on empty. You cannot imagine liberation if you have never been restored enough to dream.

This evolution does not replace our foundation. It deepens it.

We are not leaving behind divestment or Black liberation. We are moving deeper into the embodied practices that sustain it.

Everything you Need to sustain the practice.

What is inside your membership:

  • Monthly written reflections

Years of teaching, still alive.

Anti-racism. Black liberation. Inner work. Affirming practices. Community accountability.

The Shine Library is a full archive of anti-racism education, Black liberation frameworks, inner work, parenting, personal identity, and community accountability — built over years of teaching and accessible to every member from day one.

It does not expire. It does not rotate out. It grows.

New work is added each quarter as we move through the four pillar seasons. The library meets you where you are now — and where you will be in a year.

All of it. Yours from day one.

The door is Open.

If you have been doing this work in isolation — reading, reflecting, unlearning, and still feeling like you are carrying it alone — this is the place you have been looking for.

Come slowly. Come honestly. Come as you are.

What Members Say…

You were not meant to carry this alone.

You are reading, unlearning, reflecting. Trying to show up differently — in your relationships, your work, your community. It is real and necessary work.

And somewhere along the way it started to feel heavy. Like you are the only one doing it. Like there is no one to process with who understands both the political clarity and the personal grief that this work holds at the same time. Like you are supposed to be further along by now.

You are not behind. You are not broken. You are just in the middle of it — without the container that this kind of work actually requires.

This is what a liberation practice looks like in community.

Shine Bright School is not a course you complete. It is a community you belong to. A rhythm you return to. A container that holds the work over time — through the seasons that challenge you, the ones that restore you, and the ones that ask you to begin again.

We move through four pillars across the year: Recalibration, Repair, Rejuvenation, and Reclamation. Each season brings its own reflections, prompts, peer connection, and a quarterly workshop with Monique that goes deep into the practice.

Everything is held by the community and the rhythm. Nothing is designed to overwhelm. Everything is designed to sustain.
